Lamington Merino Wool Baby Socks: The Kiwi Socks That Actually Stay On
Share
If you ask me where to start with merino wool for babies, I'll probably point you towards a pair of Lamington socks. In New Zealand, Lamington merino wool baby socks are iconic. They're beautifully made, warm, ridiculously cute and, most importantly, they actually stay on little feet.
What makes Lamington baby socks so special?
Designed by a Kiwi mum who was fed up with baby socks falling off, Lamington took inspiration from ski socks to create fun, beautiful socks, including their now iconic knee-high design. The longer length sits just below the knee, helping them stay on even the wriggliest little legs. And my goodness are they cute on chubby little calves!
Made in New Zealand from superfine merino wool, they're soft, breathable and naturally temperature regulating, keeping little toes cosy without the clamminess you can get with less breathable fibres.
They're practical, not just pretty. Exactly what I love in baby clothing.
Why aren't Lamington socks 100% merino wool?
As a clothing and textile scientist, I'm all for natural fibres wherever possible, but sometimes a little synthetic fibre makes a lot of sense.
Socks need to stretch, hold their shape and withstand plenty of wear and washing. Lamington's classic 70% merino wool, 25% nylon and 5% elastane blend does exactly that. The nylon adds durability, the elastane helps them stay up and keep their shape, and the high merino content still delivers the softness, breathability and natural temperature-regulating properties we love.
It's a clever blend for a product that needs to work hard.
Why I love Lamington socks at yes merino
They're one of our best sellers and such an easy introduction to merino wool. You don't need to overhaul your baby's wardrobe to experience the benefits of this rather clever natural fibre.
They're brilliant for newborns, pram walks, under trousers and as a useful little baby gift. Plus, the colours and patterns are awesome! We've got the classic knee-high Lamington baby socks as well as shorter crew styles, with sizes from newborn through to toddlerhood. Then for kids and adults, we have a lovely little range too.
Honestly, once you've tried them, it's pretty hard to go back.
